Phonemic Awareness Sound Sort — Listening Practice for Early Readers3`
13 Circle-the-Match Pages That Build the Skill Phonics Depends On — Ages 4–8, No Reading Required
$6.00
Before a child can sound out a word on a page, they need to be able to hear the sounds inside spoken words — and that listening skill is one of the most commonly skipped steps for kids who struggle with reading later. This sound sort builds it directly, through the ear instead of the eye.
Each of the 13 pages shows one target sound at the top (a letter plus a picture, like "T ... like TREE") and six unlabeled pictures below. Your child says each picture out loud with you, listens for the one that starts with the same sound as the target, and circles it. No letters to sound out, no writing required — just listening and circling.
What's included:
13 sound sort pages covering the same 13 core letter sounds used throughout this literacy set
A parent guide explaining what phonemic awareness is, why it matters, and exactly how to run each page (including the one important rule: read every picture name aloud, since this tests listening, not reading)
A combined letter-sound reference and answer key for quick checking
A progress tracker to mark off each sound as it's mastered
Works well as a warm-up before the CVC Word Building Mats, or as a stand-alone activity for a child who isn't ready for letters yet but is ready to start listening for sounds.
